In the current economy, financial stability is important. In an effort to encourage consumers to develop a spending/savings plan and increase wise consumer decision-making skills in regards to vacations, the Caldwell County Family & Consumer Sciences Agent taught “Travel on the Cheap” to sixty-one individuals in the nine counties of the Pennyrile Area. Lesson topics included developing a budget, planning ahead for vacation, and tips for saving money on travel arrangements.
Sixty-one participants plan to use at least one strategy to save money on their next vacation and fifty-seven will plan ahead for their next vacation. Thirty-eight participants began thinking differently about their money after the lesson and thirty-five plan to develop a spending-savings plan. Participants stated they would use the following tips to save money on travel arrangements: be flexible, compare prices, cut the cost of eating out, and consider a "staycation". One participant stated “ I learned things I never thought about.”
