In the Northeast Area of Extension Homemakers, leaders selected the lesson on bladder control for women and came to the leader training to learn to deliver the lesson to others in their counties. Sixteen attendees came, women fifty five or older, from seven counties: Johnson, Boyd, Carter, Magoffin, Martin, Pike, and Greenup. Of those attending the leadership training, participants responded to a questionnaire indicating the following:
All gained knowledge about the pelvic floor and urinary incontinence
All gained knowledge about good bladder habits
All gained knowledge that certain food and drinks may irritate their bladders
13 agreed (and 3 were undecided) that if/when they are dealing with urinary leakage issues, they would use the foods and beverages diary to help track common bladder irritants
All agreed that they gained knowledge about pelvic floor exercises that can help prevent or reduce urinary leakage
Eleven agreed, 4 were undecided, and 1 disagreed that they were able to add pelvic floor exercise into daily life
Thirteen agreed and one was undecided and 1 disagreed that they felt confident in their ability to do the pelvic floor exercises shown
Fourteen agreed, 2 were undecided and one disagreed that the bladder diary was helpful
Fourteen agreed, and 3 were undecided that if/when they are dealing with urinary leakage issues they will use the bladder diary at home
Seven agreed, 2 were undecided and 8 disagreed, 1 strongly disagreed that before participating in this lesson, they felt or would feel uncomfortable talking to their doctor about urinary incontinence
After the program 15 agreed, 1was undecided that they felt more comfortable talking to their dr. about urinary incontinence.
Their favorite things were: "excellent lesson, the presenter, diary and exercise, good information, exercises, floor exercises, learned thing they did not know, appreciated the diary, and humor in presentation"
Things they would change to make the program better: Was In class participation, making sure video works
