Building a strong volunteer base throughout Fleming County has always been elusive. Recently this need has been fulfilled by the recent collaboration of Fleming County Snap-Ed Assistant. By initiating a meeting with the local recovery facility, the Snap-Ed Assistant successfully joined the Snap-Ed Nutrition Education Curriculum with the local, Belle Grove Rehabilitation Facility, joining with the Fleming County Food Pantry.
The Snap-Ed Assistant began by offering the “Healthy Choices for Every Body” to the residents of the Rehab Center on a monthly basis. Over time, the Lewis County Snap-Ed Assistant began his joint meeting with Fleming County to offer more Snap-Ed Nutrition Education Curriculum over a much shorter period of time.
After several months, the Fleming County Snap-Ed Assistant offered the County Food Pantry community service opportunity to the Director of the Rehabilitation facility. This offer was accepted immediately and the residents now offer volunteer service at the Fleming County Food Pantry once a month with great reviews from the Pantry as well as the Rehab residents. Each mutually benefit from this collaboration for the sustainability of a community infrastructure that supports long term commitment to strengthen the local families.
