“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in”. Author Unknown

In 2018-2019, Scott County Extension Master Gardener volunteers helped their neighbors, served their communities, and provided their expertise through the Scott County Cooperative Extension Horticulture Program. During this time, Scott County Master Gardeners donated approximately 450 hours by teaching through classes, projects and events and working in community gardens, and public demonstration gardens. According to the Independent Sector, Kentucky’s value per hour for volunteering for 2018 was $21.42, equaling approximately a $9,500.00 value of time donated to the Scott County Cooperative Extension Horticulture Program.
