Consumers face the challenge of making smart food choices for their families. The demand for affordable. fresh and healthy foods is growing.  Encouraging people to purchase local fresh fruits and vegetables  to improve their families diet, as well as helping their local economy by purchasing local.

This year, the Owen County Farm and Craft Market operated with a total of twenty active vendors. Twelve  of those vendors offered produce and other agricultural products, five offered mainly crafts, and three served hot lunches for purchase. Vendors continued to accept tokens from customers who chose to utilize the electronic payment system, with customers purchasing $888.00 worth of tokens with Debt or Credit cards, and $1918 worth with EBT SNAP Funds. 

Double Dollars was offered to seniors and WIC participants with 126 participants receiving $2408.00 in redemption. A Kid's Day was held each month with 159 children receiving $2.00 worth of tokens to spend at the market with $286.00 being redeem. The gross sales of the 2019 market was $33,828.48.

Extension continues to be directly involved in the Owen County Farm and Craft Market, encouraging market patrons to learn about the nutritional value of fresh produce and its availability during harvest season, as well as to vary their cooking experiences by preparing new recipes : Kentucky Proud Plate It Up" for their families.
