On December 14th the Broken Trail Horse group held it's 10th Annual Christmas for Kids activity. This celebrates a whole year of fund raising, trail riding activities, and hard work for the group. This allows for the membership to grow professionally & take charge of various fund raising activities to develop leadership skills. This year, 27 needy children were selected by various school counselors, church members, and group membership to receive 3 outfits, a winter coat, and 3 Christmas gifts. 172 individuals attended and supported the group. Everyone from the County Judge and multiple politicians- who were impressed by the success of the group- both in leadership & tourism activities. Group was extremely grateful this year to one sponsor -who purchased a brand new bicycle for all kids that were old enough to ride. This year, the weather was very uncooperative in that the spring ride fell during part of the deluge of rain and bad weather. Group had to move the place for the activity to nearby Stone Crest Horse Facility, instead of the airport venue normally used. The fall ride fell during a period of drought and unlike the spring, the owner of the property near the airport would not allow the fund raiser because of danger of fire. Mother Nature forced the group to develop back-up plans and develop new venues. Multiple 4 wheeler rides were conducted and spagetti dinners were help to fund raise to provide for more kids than every before. Each kid left with smiles, a new bike, clothes, & toys. All the parents were very grateful and stated their thanks-- saying "due to the circumstances- their kids simply would not have had anything for Christmas without the Broken Trail Group" and they really appreciated the activity.
