Major Program: Accessing Nutritious Foods (general)

Outcome: Initial Outcome

After delivering a class at the Senior Center in Fleming County on carbohydrates and how to avoid consuming more than we need for our daily food intake the SNAP assistant was approached by one of the participants wanting to know more on the subject as she recently found out she was pre-diabetic.  The assistant invited the client to come to the Extension Office later that day for a one on one lesson and to pick-up some reading info on the subject.

A couple of months later the assistant was again at the center when the participant told her she had recently been to her doctor and he told her that her A1C level as well as her weight had started going in the right direction which was down and asked her what she had been doing differently.

She said he was thrilled about her learning to count carbs and said he was going to send more of his patients to the Extension office for classes.

On another note the client not only attends classes done by the Cooperative Extension Service at the Senior Center she has now become one of the regular attendants’ at the Diabetes Support group at the Extension office.
