Soybean Cyst Nematodes reduces soybean yields for KY farmers in their fields. University of Ky's Dr. Carl Bradley with the help of Ky Soybean Association provided grant funds to conduct five free SCN soil test in KY's counties with 5000 or more soybean acres.

Fifteen years ago I sampled Wayne County's soybean farmers fields and found 0 to low risk of SCN's in Wayne County's soybean fields. Because of good crop rotation and an area that hasn't had a problem with SCN it didn't appear farmers were losing yields to SCN.

We wanted to see if SCN are robbing Wayne County's soybean farmers of their present day harvested yields. I conducted five SCN soil test with five different farmers and the results came back as 0 to very low risk of yield reduction to soybean farmers yields due to SCN.

With these results Wayne County soybean farmers can select soybean varieties with out much concern with the problem of SCN in their fields. Because Wayne County farmers are doing a good job with crop rotation in an area that hasn't had a problem with SCN, this information will help farmers select the best soybean varieties for their farms.
