~~According to the American Dairy Association, in 2016,  the total amount of milk produced in Kentucky was over 125 million gallons.  During a three day agriculture program, Farm Frenzy, the University of Kentucky's Boone County Cooperative Extension Service's Family and Consumer Sciences agents had the opportunity to teach 1455 Boone County School children and their teachers and chaperones about dairy and the importance of consuming three servings  of dairy each day.  During each session, all participants were shown the MyPlate diagram and  were taught they should be eating a balanced diet with dairy each day.  Snacking suggestions and sources of dairy were discussed in the lessons. Consuming calcium rich dairy products are helpful in building strong bones and teeth.  Post evaluations will be sent to follow up to see if the children are increasing their consumption of dairy products or at least consuming three sources of dairy a day.  Milk contains a powerful nutrient package of nine essential nutrients and low fat and fat free dairy foods are fundamental to all of the healthy eating styles in the 2015-2020 dietary guidelines for Americans.
