Planning Unit: Pike County CES
Major Program: Farmer's Markets
Plan of Work: Agritourism
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
The Pikeville Farmers Market sponsored "Hatfield McCoy days" at the Farmers Market. It has been a repeated success for 3 years in a row. Market worked closely with City and County Tourism offices to Feature not only local food, produce, and dinner for tour busses, but as an emphasis for our local crafters. Our local FM rules are suspended for the Crafters. For this project we accept all local crafters whether they have been juried in or not, as a way to emphasize the importance of local crafts as a tourism enticer. for the Market we had 28 booths of local farmers, crafters, & value added as well as the Hatfield McCoy Decedents, reenactors, and local musical talent. Our success included tour buses and drew 826 buyers from 7 states. Because of our signage, group was repeated asked to explain our SNAP/SR/WIC programs. 5 guests said they would do their best to take the programs back to their home areas.
