Outcome: Initial Outcome

When I began this job as Extension Educator for Agriculture and Natural Resources in 2017, I was told by numerous people that they would like to have a Farm Field Day back in Fleming County.  The last Farm Field Day occurred in the community over 10 years ago.  With the work of the Extension Agriculture Advisory Council the first Farm Field Day in many years was held on September 24, 2019.

Topics for the farm field day covered pink eye control in cattle, and importance knowing forage quality.  These topics were chosen because of the need of producers in the community.  After the winter of 2019 forage quality was low and many cows had issues with having enough energy for bodily functions.  Pink eye was a difficult issues for cattle producers throughout the summer of 2019.

Over 70 people were in attendance at the field day.  Vendors were set up to assist in education on various topics as well.

Numerous compliments were given after the event about the organization of the event and the timely education topics.  One producer said "Thanks for the good field day, including good info on important subjects".  A large percentage of the producers in attendance planned on trying the knowledge they learned at the event on their farms.  Two producers at the event signed up to have their forage tested for quality the day after the event.  Neither producer had tested their hay in the past.
