Plan of Work: Communications
Outcome: Initial Outcome
4-H Clubs have begun in Ballard County Schools for the new year. The 5th grade clubs focus on communications. We also relate communications to leadership. We learn about one way communication, two way communication, body language, eye contact, shaking hands, giving specific directions and learn about our own qualities with Who Am I? and an acrostic poem about their own personalities. Our materials talk about learning about yourself before you can understand others. Youth have reported understanding that two-way communication is more effective than one-way communication. They have reported understanding that in order to effectively communicate, they need to be specific, ask clarifying questions, not assume that words or phrases mean the same to every person and realize that there are many different kinds of communication. Core content relates to learning to learn, following directions, discussion as part of a group showing respect to others. We use the Step Up To Leadership and Communications Bridges 4-H curriculum.for lessons and reinforce learning with hands-on activities.
