Work with families to help them feel more self-sufficient. To make small changes in their life style that would make a big difference and have a long term outcome.
The Allen County NEP/SNAP-ED paraprofessional taught 64 limited resource
families how to serve more nutritious meals, to keep foods safe, and to utilize local food
resources effectively. 98.4% of NEP/SNAP-Ed families made an improvement in the nutritional
quality of their diet.
91% of NEP/SNAP-Ed graduate families consumed a diet of higher quality because they
planned meals using My Plate, considered healthy choices, and used the "Nutrition Facts" label.
55% of families increased the frequency of moderate physical activity for 30 minutes
per day. 88 % of families demonstrated an improvement in safe food handling practices and hand washing behavior.
87 % of families learned to plan meals ahead of time and use a grocery list to guide
food selections. An 80 % improvement was shown in food price comparison behavior.
Families showed a 53 % decrease in meals eaten away from home. There were
55% decrease in families that ate less than they wanted. A 58% of the families felt they had enough food to provide for their families. 58% decrease in families that drink soda, sweet tea and fruit punch.
