Healthy Choices, Healthy Communities is comprised of members throughout the Tri-State region. The mission of the organization is to improve the health of our communities through collaboration, education, prevention and access to healthy choices.

In conjunction with the First Friday Event in Ashland, KY the Coalition sponsored the Festival of Fitness to feature over 20 fitness activities, demonstrations and healthy lifestyle information opportunities free to area residents. Activities were geared to all fitness levels, so that beginners and more advanced individuals could participate. As a health coalition, we feel it’s important to have a variety of activities attendees can participate in as well as demonstrations and information that can lead to healthier living by knowing what support and resources are available in our community.

Featured Festival of Fitness organizations include: 606 Cycling; Aetna Better Health; Ashland Foundation for Children with Disabilities; Ashland Youth Ballet and Regional Dance Theatre; Ashland Area YMCA; Ashland Boyd County Health Department; Bless Your Heart; Boyd County Public Library; Brown Dog Yoga; Eternal Yoga and Pilates; Firm Fitness; Grizzle Soccer, LLC; Greenup County Extension Office; Greenup County Health Department; Hope Centrals Grow Team; King’s Daughters Medical Center; Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital; Primary Care Plus; Ramey-Estep Homes; River Cities Soccer Club; and United Way Northeastern Kentucky.

The Greenup County Extension Office highlighted the Fit Blue App and the Greenup County Walking Challenge to educate participants on additional resources we could provide them.  The Family & Consumer Sciences Agent walked participants through how to download and use the app increasing ways to get physical activity and meal suggestions, track your movement and eating, and improve mindfulness. One participant stated “It was a fun and educational evening for families on a beautiful summer evening outside.”
