Grain Day Enhances Client Production Practices

Author: Curtis Dame

Planning Unit: Hopkins County CES

Major Program: Grain Crops

Plan of Work: Expanding Opportunities for Technology, Sustainability, and Environmental Stewardship

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Grain production in the Tri-County Area (McLean, Webster and Hopkins County) continues to be a major economic driver in the local area. Local agents hosted a Grain Day to showcase current demonstration yield plots and also highlight management issues faced by producers. Extension Weed and Pathology Specialists presented current research targeted toward disease and weed management issues. Following presentations agents guided producers through a nearby soybean research plot that show-cased current in-furrow research and also local soybean variety trials. Producers completed surveys and their responses included a willingness to adopt new strategies for weed control, increased awareness of control challenges and awareness of control options. Future efforts will be made to provide similar activities to address ongoing producer concerns.
