Lyon County held its first Kentucky Proud Farm to Fork Dinner in September. Farm to Fork dinners promote and support local agriculture, promote consumption of a balanced diet including fruits and vegetables, and offer a sense of community in everyone coming together for a gracious evening and celebration of the fall harvest. This event was a collaboration of a local farm and three agencies: Magney Legacy Farm, Lyon County Extension, Lyon County Conservation District and Lyon County Farm Bureau. The Lyon County FFA and Girl Scouts served as waiters for the event and were extremely professional and hard-working. We were very proud of how well these youth served the 120 participants. The meal was prepared by a local chef, his help, and the committee. Entertainment included local talent on the fiddle, Kate Ward, State Senator Stan Humphries and retired Supreme Court Judge Bill Cunningham.
A comment left included the following: Fabulous evening! Well planned from publicity to ticket sales to table decorations. Kids did a fabulous job of table service, clearing, checking water and tea. Printed menus was a great idea. Fiddle music…delightful. Bill Cunningham’s remarks, light and fun. Food reasonably fresh and delicious.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Hope of Lyon County Food Bank. There were issues that would need to be worked out if we offer this event again but it served as a bright event for the community. The meal included locally raised salad, kale, sweet potatoes, meat and corn.
