Germbusters

Outcome: Initial Outcome

~~According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the single most important thing we can do to keep from getting sick and spreading illness to others is to wash our hands. This program teaches correct hand-washing steps, when to wash hands and the importance of hand-washing. The Hickman County FCS, ANR and 4-H Agents utilize experiential learning to teach handwashing skills with a germ bag and black light. Students take home the American Cleaning Institute “Don’t Do the Flu” Handout and coloring sheet. In order to reduce missed days of school and increase infection control, Germ Busters is a two day program which reached 219 youth and for the past seven years has been conducted reaching 2048 youth with a hygiene message. This program teaches correct hand-washing steps, when to wash hands and the importance of hand-washing. 2017 Germ Buster participants according to classroom observation and surveys •92% gained knowledge in the steps of proper hand-washing procedure and when to wash hands. •78% learned when to wash hands before eating•Six weeks later teacher reports that 70% of the students who participated are practicing the skills they learned during the Germ Busters program.
