Major Program: Accessing Nutritious Foods (general)

Outcome: Initial Outcome

According to Kentucky Health Facts, 67% of adults in Breathitt County are overweight. Because weight is a factor to one’s over-all health, it is important for adults to learn how to make healthier food and physical activity choices.

The Breathitt County SNAP-Ed Assistant, in partnership with the Breathitt County Senior Citizens Center, taught adults the Healthy Choices Curriculum. As a part of these classes, participants learned the importance of; meal planning, physical activity, and eating healthy.

Participants behavior change was indicated by entry and exit forms. 93% of participants indicated an increase in physical activity. Also, 90% showed a positive change in their overall diet quality. One individual stated that since the beginning of the Healthy Choices Curriculum Program, they had lost weight, and felt the best they had in a very long time.
