According to Kentucky Health Facts only nine (9) percent of the population in Clay County eat the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables and seventy–two (72) percent are overweight. The Clay County Cooperative Extension Service Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education assistant for SNAP eligible individuals partnered with Oneida Readiness Bus parent group to educate their participants about the importance of a eating healthier and being physically activate. Using the Healthy Choices for Every Body Curriculum which is a series of seven (7) key lessons that teaches the importance of eating a wide variety of foods and being physically activate.

The participants of the group ages ranged from early twenty’s to senior citizens. At the end of the program the participants reported an overall eighty-five (85) percent improvement in their diets and eighty-five percent improvement in being physically activate. One of the participants stated, “They had learned a lot of different things and this program was their favorite part of the parent group meetings”.
