The Lawrence County Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program (SNAP-Ed) assistant partnered with Blaine Elementary School to provide LEAP (Literacy, Eating and Activity for Preschool/Primary) to 54 Kindergarten through 2nd grade students. Six approved LEAP books were read to the students. A healthy snack, related to the book’s message, was provided to each student. The importance of being physically active each day was discussed and a reinforcement item was given to each student to take home.
Pre and post surveys completed by students revealed the following results: 81% improved with hand washing before eating; 79% chose healthier snacks and 75% increased their response to physical activity.
