Making Family Meals a Snap

Based on the 24 hour food recalls at entry and group discussion, only 50% of the participants at the Mountain Center for Recovery, practiced meal planning regularly. This was a major concern to participants because part of their responsibility while at the facility is to shop and help prepare daily meals. Participants expressed concern that meal planning takes too much time and they were only allowed a small amount of time each day to prepare meals.

After teaching the “Planning Meals for Every Body” lesson the group became more interested in learning, not only how to plan meals that would fit into their schedule, also different ways to use leftovers to help save time and money on meal preparation and grocery shopping. As a result of this lesson, the group now works together making menus and preparing meals.  The 24 hour exit food recalls revealed that 83% now meet (?)recommendations which resulted in an overall improvement of 33.3%.   Several in the group said that they were excited to take the information home with them and use with their families.
