Shooting Sports Camp participants display their Riffle targets after their shooting session at the Riffle Range. New to Allen County 4-H, our Archery Shooting Sports Club provides sportsman educationAllen County 4-H'er, Wyatt Seifrig, receives one-on-one guidance for technique and aim during Archery practice.   to fourteen youth seeking hands-on archery training.  Through the program, youth learn the importance of firearm safety, as well as proper procedure for handling and shooting archery.  Additionally, youth learn responsibility and discipline through the Shooting Sports Program.  The Allen County Shooting Sports Program meets twice a month to practice their archery skills, where leadership is provided by two certified volunteers.  All youth have access to archery equipment provided free of charge by the Allen County Shooting Sports Program.  These youth participants are preparing to compete in Archery during the State 4-H Shoot in September hosted by the Kentucky 4-H Shooting sports Program.  

In addition to education in Archery through the Shooting Sports Club, four Allen County youth attended the Shooting Sports Camp held in April at the Lake Cumberland 4-H Center.  During this four-day specialty camp, participants underwent training and were able to explore the following disciplines: Pistol, Riffle, Trap, Muzzleloader, Hunter Challenge and archery.  Through the Shooting Sports Camp, all four Allen County participants learned about and attempted shooting a new discipline for the first time during the course of the camp.  Youth returned from Shooting Sports Camp with a new set of knowledge for a wide variety of shooting sports disciplines and more importantly, a proper understanding for safe firearm handling procedures to encourage shooting sports safety in new sportsmen.
