Finances can be a major life stressor that effects personal and family health and well-being. The poverty rate in Christian County being at 23.7% is a major concern. Money Sense for Women is a free financial forum, sponsored by the Christian County Cooperative Extension Service and other community partners, helping to increase women’s awareness of financial issues. This year the 11th Annual Event was held with the theme: Christmas in July. During the forum 85 participants were educated on the following topics:
•Unique Uses for Canning Jars: Christmas Edition
•Budgeting for Christmas
•Holiday Happenings in Hoptown
Participants were also provided a free lunch and door prizes were given out. According to a post event evaluation, 96% felt that their knowledge on the topics presented was increased. More than 76% reported that they have attended two or more years of the forum. An overwhelming 100% of those participating in their second or greater forum stated that they have used information from previous forums to make more positive financial decisions. Several of the participants made comments that the forum was “very informative”, “enjoyable” and “the best one yet!” When asked about the value of the forum 98% of the participants stated that it should continue to be an annual event.
