Planning Unit: Magoffin County CES

Major Program: 4-H Youth Development Programming

Plan of Work: Developing Life Skills

Outcome: Initial Outcome

This year the Magoffin County 4-H Agent decided to test the waters with a much younger audience.  The Magoffin County 4-H Cloverbud program met for the first time in the spring. There seemed to be a great amount of enthusiasm from the 10-13 who attended those first meetings.

Each Cloverbud meeting has a theme usually related to the month. At each meeting the children get a chance to do a project or activity that involves creativity and allows them to work with their parents to create something. The club members also have the opportunity to either master a new skill or improve upon a learned one.  The parents appreciate the time with their kids but also enjoy watching them grow and interact with their friends. The meetings are informative, but also relaxed, and include a simple lesson that is either about science or developing a skill.

Most of the Cloverbud attendees are familiar with the Extension Office, however, there are a few who are only aware of the more popular programs. When parents bring their Cloverbuds to the Extension office they start learning about opportunities for their older children. One of the main goals associated with the development of a Cloverbud program is that the attendees will remain involved in 4-H as they get older.  The Magoffin County Cloverbud program is still in the development phases with plenty of opportunity for growth.   After taking a break for summer sports and family vacations we will begin meeting again in the Fall when school is back in session.
