History Agriculture and Leadership. This grew out of the old 4-H American Heritage program. We wanted to regain that experience for our 4-Hers. The first few times we did this event every 4 or 5 years. But due to outstanding participation, we have expanded it every year. Last year 17 participants, this year 15.
Youth must learn about our government, visit with or interview local government officials, learn about American history, the American revolution, Washington, Jefferson etc.The itinerary varies but we see Colonia Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and stay at the Jamestown 4-H Camp.We visit Monticello, Mount Vernon, have a congressional visit, Holocaust museum, all the monuments, and finally Gettysburg.
Youth learn about our governmental structure, state county, and federal. The Constitution, Bill of Rights, and a good dose of American History. 100% of participants said they had a better understating of US History. 93% reported they learned a great deal about Washington, and Jefferson and their agriculture and business enterprises.
