Planning Unit: Warren County CES

Major Program: Administrative Functions

Plan of Work: Leadership & Volunteerism

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

With the growing population in Warren County, members of the Warren County Extension District Board identified the need to save money and make plans to build a new and improved Warren County Extension Office in the future. In the spring of 2018, the District Board voted to move forward with the building venture and approved the $3.2 million dollar budget to begin construction on the new Warren County Extension Service.

Warren County Extension Agents worked together diligently to take certain tasks of the building project, while still covering their regular job responsibilities. The horticulture extension agent worked on the interior design of the building which included paint color selection, flooring options, and furnishings. She also worked closely with the landscape architect, Bowling Green City planning and zoning, and the landscape installer to design the best commercial landscape for outside. In addition, she assisted the lead agent on the Capital Campaign Committee to bring in funds for the new building.

After moving into the new office at the end of February and opening to the public at the first of March, the Warren County Cooperative Extension Service has increased the capabilities for numerous opportunities.

  • The 16,728 square foot facility has allowed more educational programming to take place and accommodated other community groups and organizations. There are 3 large meeting room spaces to fit 300 people, commercial kitchen and culinary lab, executive board room, media room, and project room.
  • The building has modern amenities and internet capabilities to better equip Extension staff and clientele for educational presentations, webinars, panel discussions, etc.
  • Furnishings and interior design of the building have given a fresh updated look to the Cooperative Extension Service in Warren County.
  • Currently, $380,000 has been raised from the capital campaign efforts to support the extension facility and ease the financial burden.
  • Installation of several woody ornamental trees and shrubs has beautified and increased the value of the property by 30 percent.

By having a new and improved Warren County Extension Office, it is evident that the doors will continue to welcome new people and expose them to the many services offered through the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service.
