Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use, and wear on a daily basis. But too few people truly understand this contribution. Each American farmer feeds more than 165 people. As the world population soars, there is an even greater demand for the food and fiber produced in the United States. The local field day was held to recognize the abundance provided by Monroe County producers, and to raise awareness of the importance of agriculture in our everyday lives.
The following presentations were given at the field day:
There was something for everyone at the field day. The Monroe Co. 4-H Youth Development Agent & the Monroe Co. Family & Consumer Sciences Agent provided several educational activities for their respective audiences. The entire program and meal was co-sponsored by Monroe Co. Cooperative Extension; Monroe Co. Farm Bureau; Monroe Co. Conservation District; and the Monroe Co. Chamber of commerce.
Several special guests attended and gave remarks. They included Monroe Co. Judge Executive Tommy Willett; State Rep. Bart Rowland; and KY Farm Bureau 1st VP Eddie Melton. State Senator David Givens told the audience, “Each one of you should personally thank your county Extension Agents for the tremendous job that they do.”
