Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
According to The Foundations for a Healthy Kentucky, 39% of Leslie County’s population lack physical activity, 50% of adults are obese, and 76% of Leslie Countians are overweight. Many adults suffer from diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and hypertension. To combat these staggering statistics the Leslie County FCS agent implemented a ten week series that was held at the Leslie County Extension Office.
13 participants attended “Weight: The Reality Series,” which is a 10 week program that focuses on portion control, meal planning, fruit and vegetable intake, physical activity, and MyPlate. This program helped adults learn about themselves and their eating habits, and gave them tips to change any unhealthy habits.
Participants lost a total of 50 pounds during the 10 week program. 92% reported an increase in the consumption of fruits and vegetables a day, which is important to note because according to The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky only 6% of adults in Leslie County get their recommended daily fruit and vegetable intake. 76% increased their daily physical activity levels.
