The Lewis County Extension Office hosted the 9th annual Fall Sewing Week September 11th-13th at the Lewis County Extension Office. The program started 9 years ago when Cindy Anthony contacted the Lewis County Extension office wanting to do a sewing project that would benefit the community. Local nursing homes and groups were contacted to see what items were needed. Since then the program has continued. This year after Anthony passed away the Lewis County Homemakers decided to continue the program in her honor. Twenty six women over three days from Women In Service to Our Communities and the Lewis County Homemaker Clubs came together to sew 82 baby bibs, 35 baby quilts, 18 receiving blankets, 75 burp cloths, 12 fleece throws, 2 lap throws, 7 adult bibs, 24 lap pads, 27 walker caddies, 16 wheelchair caddies, 43 pillow cases, and 50 tissue covers.. Women in Service to Our Communities donated all pre-cut kits for items made during the week of sewing. Total value of the items made was $3,041.50 which saved many families money that would normally be spent on these items.

Total items over the last eight years includes: 856 Pillow cases, 2 changing pads, 498 bibs, 197 Wheelchair caddies, 10 bedside saddlebags, 10 aprons, 13 lap quilts, 34 body suits, 101 tote bags, 269 receiving blankets, 406 burp cloths, 392 lap pads, 264 baby bibs, 95 zipper coin bags, 7 poly baby play matts, 99 baby quilts, 6 twin quilts, 69 fleece blankets, 5 wrist tie changing pads, 2 lap throws and 50 tissue covers..
