Environmental Programming in Gallatin County

Author: David Hull

Planning Unit: Gallatin County CES

Major Program: Woodland Education

Plan of Work: Outdoor Recreation

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Because environmental issues are constantly grabbing headlines, and because of the "back to nature" movement becoming more mainstream in our society, the Gallatin County Extension Service has provided the residents of Gallatin County many environmental education and enrichment opportunities during the course of the year.

Highlighted below are a few examples of the programming offered.

  • 3 Wildflower educational walks at Hartig Park
  • 2 Fall tree identification walks at Hartig Park
  • "Milkweed & Monarchs" taught at the end of each Pesticide Applicator training
  • 2 Stream walks at a local farm
  • 16 part Nature Studies Class taught to fifth graders at a local private school

It's important to note that vast majority of these educational programs were clientele driven. All in all, over 100 people took part in environmental programs last year.
