With the Agriculture Economy on the downward slope, farmers could always use extra funds to assist with their farming practices. Owen County Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent Kendal Bowman organized an "Ag Funding Workshop". At this workshop producers were able to learn about various grants, loans, and other resources to improve their farm. Local banks, Ag lenders, FSA, Conservation Groups, KSU, GOAP, and KY Proud had booths set up around the room to provide materials to the attendees. Bowman explained the investment categories of the CAIP program and the recent changes to the program. Before the program, over half of the participants that completed the survey reported little to no knowledge of the CAIP program.
KCARD and KY Proud also spoke at the workshop explaining their services to assist with business planning and marketing of agriculture products. As a result of this workshop over 90% of the participants plan on perusing funding opportunities. One participant stated “There (are) a lot of programs out there to help farmers that I wasn't aware of”.
