Major Program: Grain Crops

The Kentucky Agriculture Training School (KATS) was developed to provide hands-on trainings to those individuals who are seeking advanced knowledge in various areas of agriculture and crop production. The program is open to everyone, but with the focus being on crop advisors, managers and others that may influence and assist producers. It is important to keep them up to date with new technology and research findings, so they may be able to help individuals make wise decisions that will affect productivity. Since becoming coordinator for this program last year, it has been my goal to make information about these trainings easily accessible and broadcasted. I have developed a website (kats.uky.edu) that shows what KATS is about and provides up-to-date information regarding the program. It provides current links to register for upcoming workshops and includes a library that documents information and pictures of past workshops. I have also opened two social media outlets for KATS; Facebook and Twitter. This allows us to announce upcoming trainings, provides links to register, and allows people to share this information with others.  They also allow us to display real time photos and information while the trainings are going on.  With these internet channels, the average number of people reached has been 1927 per month.People all over our state and across the country can easily gain access to information about the KATS program, and have the opportunity to participate.  As the program continues to grow, the internet will allow us to continue to provide information about KATS program and what can be gained by attending.
