Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

The Christian County Homemakers have been a staple in the community for nearly a century. The organization is continually working to recruit new members in an ever changing society. Last year the Christian County Homemaker Advisory Council decided to work on recruiting from the ground up by implementing a Jr. Homemakers club (for youth ages 9-18) in the county.

The Homemakers decided to team up with the Pennyroyal Area Christian Home Educators of Kentucky (PACHEK) for the pilot season of Jr. Homemakers. The club met 8 times during the 2018-19 Homemaker year. The meetings were held at the Christian County Extension Office on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 10:00am. Each month there were different topics taught by Homemakers or the Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences. Lessons included: Green Cleaning; Cooking with Leftovers, Holidays around the World, Dental Health, Paint Barn Quilt Squares, Cinco de Mayo, Gardening and Table Setting/Etiquette.

The goal of offering the Jr. Homemakers club was to instill a love for lifelong learning in the young participants as well as developing a mentorship between the Homemaker members and Jr. Homemaker members.  The program was a great success with 12 members who have asked that the club continue this coming year. The Christian County Homemakers have also received requests for other Jr. Homemaker clubs to be offered for public and private school youth. The Homemakers look forward to continuing and growing the Jr. Homemaker program in the years ahead.
