My Rear View Mirror

“Texas in my Rear View Mirror” was written & recorded by Mac Davis in the 1980’s.  Although many may have never heard of Mac Davis, the lyrics somehow stick in the back of your mind.  It deals with the growing pains of a young teen wanting to spread their wings and leaving their home of Lubbock, Texas.  I too can somewhat relate to that having graduated from high school in 1972 and moving from Florida to Kentucky in 1974.   Although I have lived here for over 40 years I still do not like the cold weather!  

Everyone’s “Rear View Mirror” is different and certainly changes throughout life.  For me it is a reflection of what I have experienced the last 20+ years in Extension.  My Extension career began in January, 1996 at the age of 41.  Now that I have passed the 65 threshold it is time to turn the reins over to someone else.

4-H was a big part of my life growing up and I feel extremely fortunate to work in a similar environment.  What I value the most is the knowledge I have gained, the people I have met and the resources I have acquired.  Now it is no secret that most 4-H agents will agree if they only had to deal with the kids how much easier their job would be.  However we all have those special parents we have met along the way that not only wants their child to succeed but also has the best interest of others at heart as well.  

As a graduate of the University of KY and Extension employee, I value the relationships I have built with instructors and specialists.   Those in the College of Ag (CAFÉ, today) are always willing to reach out and help people in your respective county.  

So I say, THANKS, for the experiences and life lessons learned along the way.
