Planning Unit: Whitley County CES

Major Program: Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices (general)

Plan of Work: Nutrition Education

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Whitley County Cooperative Extension Service implemented the Body Balance: Protect Your Body from Pollution with a Healthy Lifestyle lesson series. The series was delivered to an audience of 12 participants, composed primarily of young adults.

Following the lesson, there was a 100% increase in knowledge pertaining to understanding the benefits phytonutrients have in negating the detrimental effects of environmental pollution. Furthermore, there was a 100% increase among participants pertaining to their willingness to decrease usage of food storage containers that contain harmful chemicals. One participant stated she did not realize the amount of plastic water bottles she was using until she started paying attention. Another person stated they didn't realize there were so many benefits of white colored vegetables and fruits.

Since completing this lesson, participants have been referred to the Nutrition Education Program to help support their healthy behavior changes and to increase their nutrition knowledge.
