Fleming County Work Ready Committee stated their mission is to partner with economic developers, education, workforce boards and community and business leaders to facilitate positive solutions for workplace issues and to improve the economic well-being for Fleming County and the region. Fleming County was awarded the Work ready Certificate in 2015 after the initial application.   We were the first county that was awarded this designation on its first try.   This committee prepared a section that addressed the needs of students enrolled in the Fleming County School district. The committee looked at cooperative extension to help play a role in this process. Since the 2015, The Family and Consumer Sciences program has initiated several programs to address the soft skills portion of the work ready program.   In 2018-19, The FCS agent reached 45 Middle school youth with life skills training on three separate visits. One student realized how important budgeting is when he made the comment’ Now I know what my Parents are going through.”

The FCS agent also assisted with Reality store for 155 7th grade students and 135 5th grade students.

All 8th grade students (139) participated in an etiquette program that demonstrated proper table manners and socialization during a formal dinner. 48 4th and 5th graders from Ward elementary participated in an educational program on proper etiquette and put into practice good manners at formal dinner prepared by and served by the county Homemakers. One student responded that, “I now knows what to do when he attends a wedding this summer with my family. “ (Photo is of Ward Elementary School students learning how to set a table. )

For the senior class they participate in the Work Ready program. FCS agent assisted the Chamber in addressing basic Life Skills with the senior class.48 seniors were awarded the work ready seal in 2019.
