Major Program: Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices (general)

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Many American’s only have a minimal amount of extra time, this is the same for Spencer County Residents. That is why the Spencer County FCS agent and the program assistant developed a lunch and learn program at the Spencer County Library where residents could come once a month to learn various information on such topics as: the air fryer, essential oils, holistic living, container gardening, and basic nutrition for one hour. This the second year for this program and the turnout more than doubled.

On average there were 15 adults that attended each session. They learned how to grow fresh vegetables in small spaces, the benefits of living a holistic lifestyle, how to cook and prepare quick and easy Snap Ed recipes in an air fryer, as well as basic nutrition to sustain a healthy life, and the hype about essential oils and their usage.

Due to this program residents who attended have become more aware of choices in their life that were not beneficial to their overall well-being. They can use this information to live healthier lifestyles and teach others to do the same. This will in turn cause people in the community to make more nutritious choices, save money on food by growing vegetables at home and practice a more holistic lifestyle, resulting in fewer health problems and less money spent on medical services in the future.
