Gardening Class Series Remains Popular

Author: James Morgeson

Planning Unit: Washington County CES

Major Program: Home & Consumer Horticulture

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

The most extensive class series the Horticulture Agent does each year is the Gardener’s Wheelbarrow Series.   Each year over 400 people attend the 25 classes taught twice once in the morning and once in the evening for the convenience of the public.  Many of the class topics each year come at the request of participants in the series however some topics are covered because of the need to disseminate timely horticulture information from the University.  In 2018-2019 some topics included Growing Tree Peonies, Alluring Amaryllis, Simplified Spray Programs for Home Fruit Production, Preserving the Harvest, and Lasagna Gardening just to name a few.  The class series was also featured on the “Out in the Field” program produced by Dr. Craig Wood Interim Assistant Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources.  Some quotes from participants that posted to the Washington County Facebook page is as follows:  “Dennis, thank you for one of the most informative and helpful horticulture classes I've ever taken today.” “Thank you for all the work you put into each and every horticulture presentation, and for the excellent plants you obtain for your Wheelbarrow classes. We appreciate you so much!”
