Each year 4-H members from across the great state of Kentucky sit down and complete the Kentucky 4-H Achievement Application. The 4-H Achievement program is intended to recognize 4-H members for their accomplishments and to provide an incentive for youth to increase their knowledge, skills, and abilities. This year two outstanding Christian County 4-H members submitted their applications for the Gold level.
Brothers, Drew and Nick Sanderson have been actively involved in the Christian County 4-H program since older brother Drew joined at nine years old. While they have been active in many aspects of the 4-H program, 2017 was the first year for the brothers to apply for an Achievement Award. They were successful in receiving the Silver Award which granted them a partial scholarship to the 2018 Kentucky 4-H Teen Conference. After returning home from Teen Conference, Nick and Drew met with me to begin working on their Achievement Application for 2018.
Through hard work, commitment to the 4-H program, and commitment to serving their community outside of 4-H, both brothers accumulated enough points to be eligible for the Gold level achievement and were selected to move to the interview round. After judging on the Area and District level both applicants were sent to the State Achievement Judging where they were selected to be interviewed for Gold. Out of the seventy applications submitted for judging on the state level, only fifty percent are selected to move to the interview round, with the thirty Gold Achievement winners being selected from those interviewed.
While Nick fell just short of achieving his goal for this year, older brother Drew was one of the top 30 4-H members in the state that received his Gold Achievement. Nick will reapply this year for the Gold Achievement level.
