Demand continues to be strong for Extension educational direct service outreach from both commercial operations as well as homeowners involved in horticulture activities. Here, educational service outreach includes activities supported by Extension such as direct site visits, lab services, soil testing, plant disease diagnosis, weed/insect identification, etc. Much time during the past year has been dedicated to these educational outreach activities. Over 1100 phone consults were taken and more than 150 walk in office visits were made. More than 110 site visits were conducted at individual commercial operations and/or home sites. There were over 300 plant identifications and disease control recommendations made. More than 170 insect specimens were also handled through the horticulture program. Most of these individual cases above involved both service and educational components. The Bourbon County Extension Service will continue to improve our local communities with research information as both service and education is used together to meet direct local needs.
