Outcome: Initial Outcome
In an attempt to offer more educational activities during the summer for lower elementary students, the Carlisle County 4-H Youth Development and Family and Consumer Sciences programs collaborated this summer to offer the third Cloverbud Day Camp. Thirty youth entering grades K-3 learned about the environment through hands-on activities that introduced them to the cultures of Asia, South America, and Africa. Cloverbuds boarded a “plane” each day where they listened to a book about the places they would be visiting. Each Cloverbud got their passport stamped after the “plane” landed and entered a world of art, food, and crafts of the culture we were visiting that day. Each day, youth participated in a make and take craft, made a hands-on snack, completed a physical activity challenge, and listened to a story relating to the environmental topic for the day. At the end of the program, a majority of participating youth indicated they increased in their understanding about the world and its’ people and tried new foods. Multiple parents expressed excitement at a summer program being offered specifically for this grade level and many youth expressed interest in returning next year.
