Tri-County Winter School

Planning Unit: Entomology

Major Program: Tobacco

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The 2017 Census of Agriculture reports that grain and tobacco production accounted for 158,557 ($1000) in agricultural sales across Graves, Calloway and Marshall counties. Additionally, these three counties had a combined agricultural sales receipt of 22,831 ($1000) from cattle and calves. Extension Agents for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Graves, Calloway and Marshall counties partnered to address educational training opportunities during a traditionally non-peak production time frame for these producers.

The inaugural Winter School series consisted of three individual programs throughout January 2019. Program topics were selected by Extension Agents and conducted in cooperation with agents and specialists. Programs included: Dicamba Training, GAP Training for Tobacco Producers and a Kentucky Beef Update.

Over the course of the program, 68 producers from three counties attended at least one session. Through the Winter School program, 30 individuals received a 2019 Dicamba Certification and 23 individuals received credit for GAP Tobacco Training.
