Major Program: Community Design/Creative Placemaking

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Department of Landscape Architecture published 12 Extension publications between 2015 and 2017 that covered public space planning and design topics of interest to communities in Kentucky, including trails, wayfinding, walkability and connectivity, streetscape, and placemaking. Between Fall 2018 and Spring 2019, 5 webinars were offered to Extension Agents through the In-Service Training Catalog for professional development. The webinars were also publicized through the Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky’s (CEDIK) monthly announcements and newsletters and offered to the general public interested in community design endeavors in their communities.

During the one-hour sessions, the audience gained introductory knowledge regarding the topic area, relevant resources and tools, and examples of projects that have been implemented in Kentucky. In total, 23 Extension Agents from 22 counties participated in the webinars, as well as 11 individuals from organizations in and out of state interested in enhancing their built environment for the betterment of their communities. In the long term, extension personnel have access to the recorded webinars through the CEDIK Community Design program webpage at  https://cedik.ca.uky.edu/cd101_webinars.
