Plan of Work: Addressing Family Life Needs

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Family and Consumer Sciences Agent attended a state in-service taught by the creator and founder of Stories, Songs, and Stretches: Creating Playful Story times with Yoga and Movement, Katie Scherrer. Stories, Songs, and Stretches is an evidence – based program designed to teach children ages three to six physical, emotional, and mental benefits through the use of yoga and movement. Each class provides proven, effective skills for healthy child development.

The Family and Consumer Sciences Agent partnered with the Powell County Public Library to teach Stories, Songs, and Stretches each month at their Preschool Story Hour. A total of six lessons were taught from January to June 2019. Attendance increased each month with the average class size reaching about 10 preschoolers. Parents/caretakers were encouraged to participate with their child during the lesson.

Stories, Songs, and Stretches will be a continued program at the Public Library in the future and will be offered to Elementary school classrooms in the fall.
