Elliott County 4-H Livestock Program Makes Impact on Career Choice

According to 4-H research youth that are involved in 4-H programming are four times a likely to contribute to their communities, this is particularly evident in the Elliott County 4-H Livestock Invest in Youth Show and Sale. MaKayla Rose, a 10 year exhibitor in the 4-H Livestock Club, became a certified livestock volunteer in 2016. She began volunteering with the Livestock Club in January 2017 and is already making big plans for the 2018 program. Not only has the 4-H livestock program shaped MaKayla's heart for community service, but it has made a major impact on her future career choice. MaKayla said, "Helping our 4-H kids has given me a love for teaching, especially agriculture. Being a certified livestock volunteer and working with the youth in Elliott County encouraged me to pursue a degree in Agricultural Education and one day, hopefully, teach agriculture in Elliott County." MaKayla's impact on her community was evident during this years livestock show and sale, more than 30 youth exhibited their animal projects with over $19,000 in gross sales.
