The McLean County Ag fair has been in existence for several years and livestock shows have always been a large part of the Ag fair. It allows 4-H and FFA members to exhibit their livestock projects from the surrounding counties as well as the local area. The local 4-H Council has been borrowing pens so that the exhibitors would have a place to pen their livestock when they came to McLean County, which was a lot of work for the Volunteers. This agent saw an opportunity to solve this issue for the local community by using Ag Development Funds to secure new pens for McLean County.
The 4-H Council applied for these funds, with the help of the McLean County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources, with donations and monies derived from some fundraising activities. Forty new pens and gates for a show ring were secured with a 50/50 grant from the GOAP for a total investment of just over $15000. These pens will help the exhibitors when exhibiting their livestock at the McLean County Ag Fair as well as present the opportunity for the McLean County Livestock Club to host jackpot shows throughout the show season for several different species of livestock.
