In the fall of 2018 the McLean County District Board started discussing improvements to the facilities that they own at Myer Creek Park in Calhoun KY. They enlisted this agent to help secure funding for those facilities through grants or other means. The McLean County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources sought a partnership between the McLean County Extension District Board and the McLean County Ag Fair Board to apply for funds through the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s County Fair Grant Program.
With $20,000 from the McLean County Extension District Board, this group was able to secure a 75/25 matching grant through the County Fair Grant program. This $80,000 dollar investment will improve the facilities at Myer Creek Park immensely. A new show ring barn has been built, heat and air conditioning will be installed in the enclosed building along with insulation and metal wall coverings to make that facility much more user friendly, not only during the fair but throughout the year.
This was a collaborative effort between several organizations, agents and community volunteers. McLean County will have one of the premier facilities not only for livestock exhibition but also for educational purposes in the Green River area. This facility has already been booked for a Poultry Expo in the winter of 2020, the first of its kind in the area.
