Major Program: Arts Engagement

Plan of Work: Healthy Homes and Healthy People

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Nelson County Homemakers applied for and received a $300 grant at the Annual KEHA Conference in Louisville, KY for the development of a Cultural Arts and Crafts program in 2019-2020.  The Homemaker Cultural Arts Committee was comprised of four individuals who felt the county needed to teach the skills needed to create cultural arts, including but not limited to, sewing, knitting, hand-stitching, painting, quilting, basket making, and floral arranging.

This year, the Nelson County Homemakers Cultural Arts Committee piloted a year round program of cultural arts, one class for each month of the year.  Participants learned many things including cake decorating, hand stitching, floral arranging, loom knitting and wood crafting.  With the $300 grant as start-up funds, the committee will market the program starting in January with every lesson established.  The classes have been widely attended and the Nelson County FCS Agent is looking for new ways to evaluate each class' effectiveness.  Participant comments were encouraged this year utilizing google chrome books and living documents.

More outcomes and evaluations to follow.
