Allen County is home to major agriculture production. We take pride in our agriculture community. National Farm city week is held in November every year and to support our farmers we have a farm city week lunch at the extension office. This event is presented by the Allen County Extension Service, Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky Farm Bureau and local farmers. The purpose of this event is to show appreciation for our farmers and so stakeholders, elected officials and community members can get to know our farmers and learn about agriculture in our community.
This event begins with a welcome from the Extension agents followed by the introduction of the keynote speaker which talks about the agriculture industry in Kentucky and supporting local farmers. The meal provided is made from locally grown products and gives attendees a chance to see how good locally grown food is. This gives our producers a chance to promote their products and their farming operations.
At the end of this event we giveaway the fresh produce that was provided for table decorations. This event is a huge success and a great way for us to promote agriculture in our community. We always look forward to this event as it is a great way to get the community involved and informed. We always get comments like “thank you for having this event, I really enjoy this every year”. We will continue with this event for the foreseen future.
