What’s all the Buzz about Beeswax Wraps and Green Cleaning?

In response to the trend of using Beeswax Wraps as a healthy and reusable alternative to plastic wrap and Green Cleaning Products, Green County residents showed interested in learning how to make their own wraps and cleaners. DIY wraps are simple and fun to make. Cleaners are also simple to do.  During the first class, participants learned about the use of the wraps, their potential to be used in the home, and how to make them. When they left, each had 3 wraps to use. A month later, participants returned back to attend a DIY Green Cleaning class. During this class, participants were able to make an all-purpose cleaner, received multiple “green cleaning” recipes and got to see demonstrations of the use of green cleaning products. At the same time, they reported their use of the beeswax wraps to others. It was determined that 100% of them had used their beeswax wraps and 100% were still using them. One participant shared that she had “wrapped fresh vegetables in the wraps, left them for a week in the fridge and they vegetables are still as crisp as they were when put in”. Since the green cleaning class, 75% of participants have reported back that they have used their green all-purpose cleaner and plan to continue using it. That 75% also reported to still be using their wraps nearly two months later and some have even made more wraps on their own. Because of this class, some Green County residents are helping to decrease the amount of waste that comes from our homes within the County.
